Concept
Art, as a mirror of the human soul, inevitably reflects the concerns that stir the minds of artists, who have always used their works as platforms to express worries, questions, and critiques.
The theme of this video composition leads the artists on an introspective journey that allows them to question their concerns as they appear to them "it et nunc," here and now. The thirty-three artists thus offer us a window into their own concerns during 2007 and 2008, when the theme was proposed to them.
Their videos can be grouped under two poles of the same continuum.
The first pole concerns concerns that revolve around the major questions shaping our world. Artists are often haunted by existential questions such as the transience of existence, the erosion of memories, and the frantic race toward an uncertain future. Another inexhaustible source of concern for artists is, of course, societies with their injustices, inequalities, and conflicts.
The second focus, which fuels the video composition, focuses on the artists' inner world. Intimacy, with its joys, doubts, and hopes, is an inexhaustible source of inspiration. Themes of love, loss, loneliness, illness are found here. By exploring their own emotions, artists invite us to delve into the depths of the human soul.
1 - The World as a Backdrop
The Uneasy Triangle
A triptych of concerns runs through the history of art like a common thread: Time (Chronos), Existence (Anankè), and the Forces of Nature (Natura). This triangle, or these three dimensions, intertwine and respond to each other, forming a complex network of questions that have haunted the human mind since the first artistic manifestations, like so many prisms through which our understanding of the world and our place within it is diffracted.

MELTINGTIME # 17 - Kirsten Justesen (Danemark - 21)

Violence, A Haunting Specter
Over the centuries, artists, witnesses and actors of their time, have sought to capture the elusive, to account for the unspeakable. Art, in its ability to transcend words and touch souls, proves to be a valuable tool for understanding and denouncing violence in all its forms, whether armed, economic, or psychological. Artists explore the trauma, suffering, and absurdities of conflicts, whether they take place on distant battlefields or in the heart of our cities. By denouncing violence, artists remind us of the urgency of building a world of peace and justice. Their videos offer us a lucid and critical look at our past, a warning for our present, and hope for our future.

PAST PERFECT – PRESENT CONTINUOUS - Bridget Walker (Australia - 24)
LIQUIDATION - Cagdas Kahriman (Turkey - 25)
RUN, LARA, RUN - Larissa Sansour (Palestinian Territories - 27)
Cracked Societies
Artists have chosen to highlight the tensions, paradoxes, and fractures that pervade our societies. Their concerns focus on the dysfunctions manifested by glaring inequalities, blatant injustices, and everyday aberrations. The artists immerse us in the twists and turns of these realities, revealing the flaws in our economic, political, and social systems. Their videos offer critical perspectives on a world facing unprecedented challenges. They reflect the anxieties, hopes, and questions raised by these upheavals.

Social Norms: An Invisible Shackle
Social norms, often implicit and internalized, exert a considerable influence on our behaviors and choices. Artists question the mechanisms of conformity, stereotypes, and discrimination that result from them. They denounce the demands of performance, consumption, and normality, inviting us to reflect on our ability to free ourselves from these constraints. Our era is marked by a profound questioning of these norms. The body, and more specifically that of women, is at the center of the artists' concerns. Their videos offer a critical look at the dress code constraints imposed on women, the omnipresent beauty standards, and, by contrast, the freedoms that men enjoy with respect to these same social norms.

Echoes of Interactions
In a world where communication reigns supreme, paradoxically, misunderstandings are on the rise. Words, once carriers of meaning, seem to be emptied of their substance, giving way to misunderstandings, heavy silences, and unspoken words that drive rifts between people. Artists, privileged witnesses of this relational cacophony, express this difficulty in connecting, understanding, and reaching out to each other. They invite us to question the misunderstandings between people and the way in which technologies mediate our relationships, modifying and reinventing them.
IN TIME - Evgenija Demnievska (Serbia - 6)
OUR PREOCCUPATION - Anna Malagrida (Spain - 19)
PRESENT - Lusine Talalyan (Armenia - 32)
2 - The Intimate in Focus
Intimacy, a concept both multifaceted and omnipresent, reveals itself in the form of a constellation of subjective experiences. Beyond appearances and social conventions, it is conceived as a space where a person reveals their vulnerability and authenticity. The video works examine this inner space, where emotions, memories, and desires mingle.
Understanding Yourself
Far from a simple matter of secrecy or withdrawal, intimacy allows access to a space of questioning, a territory where a person constructs or reconstructs themselves, where they discover themselves in their purest authenticity.

SECRET CHAMBERS: BODY, BLOOD, WIND AND WATER - C. M. Judge (USA - 33)
Intimacy as a Secret Garden
Intimacy is also that secret garden where the individual unfolds, hidden from view. It is the place of confidences, unspeakable thoughts, and raw emotions. Here, the artist becomes an explorer of her inner space, exploring its scope. The videos explore the twists and turns and complexities of our relationships with ourselves. They invite us to delve into the depths of our subjectivity, to discover our truths as well as our personal fractures.

The Original Bond
For two artists, the intimate space flourishes above all in the experience of motherhood. It is the site of an original symbiosis, a carnal fusion that transcends the boundaries of the individual, an otherness that resides at the heart of the self.
